Course Description This course is designed to continue the development of the students’ communicative competency and linguistic accuracy and to expand the students’ awareness and appreciation of Hispanic culture. Spanish II is a beginning level second language course that introduces students to the cultures and language of the Spanish-speaking world. Through authentic texts, media and inductive presentations of grammar, students practice speaking, listening, reading and writing. Classes are taught primarily in Spanish .This whole language learning will lead students to achieve a beginning level of communicative competence in Spanish and also make connections to the knowledge and concepts of other disciplines. Through linguistic and cultural inquiry and comparisons, students will gain the skills and knowledge they need to become open-minded reflective communicators in the target language.
Standards and skills: Students will attain the following knowledge and skills, based on the North Carolina World Language Essential Standards: Standard 1= Connections to Language and Literacy Standard 2= Connections to other disciplines Standard 3= Communities Skill 1= Use the language to engage in interpersonal communication. (Interpersonal Communication: Person-to-Person Communication) Skill 2= Understand words and concepts presented in the language. (Interpretive Communication: Listening and Reading) Skill 3= Use the language to present information to an audience. (Presentational Communication: Speaking and Writing) Skill 4= Compare the students’ culture and the target culture (Culture).
