Carolinas Latin Dance Company CLDC was founded in 2001, in Charlotte, NC to satisfy the desire of children from different Latin-American Countries, who expressed an interest in learning more about each other’s diverse origins, music and dance. Our objective is to provide opportunities for cultural enrichment through performances and lectures that bring together not only people of Latin American backgrounds, but people of all cultures. This creates an enjoyable environment of mixed cultures and traditions, where the community can learn about each other, while cultural awareness and acceptance is also promoted. CLDC teaches how to dance folkloric dances from Latin America and the history of those dances to children 7 years old and up, from all religious, ethnic/cultural, social and economic backgrounds. The children also learn to dance popular dances such as Salsa , Cumbia, Merengue and Bachata. Once the dances are learned, the costumes are created , the program is organized, and the children present the dances they learned as a beautiful annual theatre performance in the Spring.
